BIRDS, BEES, BEARS & BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS - May 1st thru June 29th

RECEPTION: May 11 - 4 - 8 pm

Our WNC environment IS the mountains and all they hold. Printmakers were asked to respond to our location and its specific aspects for this show. Are you concerned with environmental changes that are happening to our beautiful land? Interested in native birds, bees or hiking the mountains? Come see how local artists responded to these questions with their art!

WHY ARE PRINTS SO POPULAR?

Prints have long been a way for artists to get their work to the general public in a low cost and efficient manner.

During the early 1600’s, the Dutch painter Rembrandt revolutionized printmaking. He created obvious differences from one plate impression/print to the next by reworking his metal plates and changing the way he applied and manipulated his ink. By doing this, he used the printing process to create original artworks. Rembrandt’s main means of support was his etchings - because they were less expensive than his paintings, he could reach a larger audience who could afford his work.

That equation is still true today! The printmakers represented in our gallery are creating original artwork. They work in multiple impressions - each impression of their image being distinct, original and showing the artist’s hand. Prints are a great way to collect art and create a distinctive home or business filled with beautiful images - at an affordable price!
